Now

This is a /now page, inspired by Derek Sivers. You should consider making your own! I keep a more complete list of my recently active projects here.

Derek just wrote a new post about these pages. I updated this page 2026-06-04

New Opps

I'm no longer with Vantage. I'll post more shortly about what's next but I am certainly open to hearing about any opportunities you feel I should consider. Please share and say hello if you have any!

Hiking....

Ok, I survived! My first time sleeping on the ground in a long time. Two nights in the backcountry of Bruce Peninsula park, about 9km hiking days and spending all the non-hiking time with no other humans. I may be hooked......

Backyard Shows

Now and again I host live music in my backyard, there's one coming up June 12th, you should join us if you're in Guelph!

Books rework...

I highlight while I read on my kindle...a lot! I previously had a workflow where I would request the kindle email me a book highlights, which would send me a pdf of my notes. I then had a python script to pull my notes etc...

I recently noticed my notes were missing on device. I dug in a realized that a recent factory reset wiped my local notes. That's a challenge and I'm working to see if I can get my previous notes sent through privacy rules.

Through this process, I learned that my notes are stored on device in a text file. I can get that file by plugging my kindle into my laptop. I now have a new python script which parses that local file and generates one md file for my personal note area so I can write about, reference highlights and generates a web md skeleton file for my bookshelf.

So, that means my bookshelf has some new books on it and will be kept more up to date going forward!

Writing... a bit more.

I'm trying to spend more time writing. I'm focused lately on telling some of the stories from 349 and building a coworking space here in Guelph. While I work on the stories, I am also building a new online home for this work.

You may recognize the domain name. If you like the project, let me know by signing up for the new email list there!

Medical Updates

A close family member was hospitalized this week with symptoms that looked like a bowel obstruction (severe vomiting and abdominal swelling). Doctors initially treated and investigated it that way and briefly considered inflammatory causes like Crohn’s.

Surgery was ultimately needed to determine the cause.

During the operation, surgeons discovered Meckel’s diverticulum, a congenital pouch in the small intestine that about 2% of people are born with but that rarely causes problems.

They removed it, and the bowel itself looked healthy (just inflamed from the episode), so the underlying issue should now be resolved.

About 2% of people are born with Meckel’s diverticulum, but only about 4–6% of those ever develop complications, meaning this kind of situation happens in roughly 1 in 800–1,200 people overall.

They are now recovering while their digestive system wakes back up after surgery.
